Do you know if you will get the right settlement from your insurance claim? Reviewing your assets and their total value will give you the information needed to then review your policy for correct coverage.
You'll need to estimate how much that item would cost to replace, not how much it may have cost you when you first bought it. Keep in mind that something like clothing or computers may depreciate over time while other things like record collections may gain in value.
The more information you have about your damaged possessions, including the make and model or a description of the item, the faster your claim generally can be settled.
It would also be helpful to have photos of your home both before and after the disaster. The digital images and comprehensive reports provided by your home inventory professional will help facilitate the claims process and ensure that no items are forgotten.

Home Inventory Business on The Rise
A crisis for any homeowner is a fire or theft. And it does not have to be a major occurrence to be an emotional and monetary setback for the victim involved. The mind "floods" with thoughts that conflict and at the same time hope for the best in trying to remember what items were involved. Claims need to be filed. Will I remember all the valuable items to put on my claim? Is my homeowners policy sufficient to cover my losses? Do I have replacement cost or only actual cash value in my policy? This is no time to be in turmoil. An inventory of my home would have given me peace of mind. I wish I had listened to my neighbor who had Record-It Home Inventory do a complete inventory of their personal property. They said I should have one done, but I didn't listen. I always thought this kind of thing only happens to other people. Well, I was right in one sense - I found out the hard way I'm the other person.
